The Four Parts of Your Mind
Modern
scientific research proves that the mind is not in the brain. The
brain is the INSTRUMENT of the mind (the switching station, if you
will), and your mind is present in every single cell of your being.
Again, for this reason, the body is mind.
The unconscious mind is "pre-personal." It contains the programming
that you've received since birth (and before), and it controls the
body. Your unconscious mind is totally subjective, meaning that it
MUST take and act upon whatever it is given by your conscious mind.
It has no ability whatsoever to question, add or delete the
information it is given. The unconscious mind has no sense of humor.
Any self-depreciating or limiting comments you make about yourself
or accept from an outside source is accepted as LAW by the
unconscious mind.
Any statement followed by the words "I am" can be extremely powerful
or very dangerous. Choose carefully.
The conscious mind is "personal." This is where your individual
ego/identity resides. Modern research tells us that the conscious
mind does not begin to form until approximately 3-4 years of age and
is fairly locked in by the age of approximately 13 years old. While
the ego is the way you operate within your world, remember that the
unconscious rules the body. Consequently, beyond ego/identity, you
are greatly influenced by the programming that has been placed in
your unconscious mind.
Finally, the higher-conscious mind is "transpersonal." All great
teachers in any field of study, whether Albert Einstein, Carl Jung,
Jesus Christ, William James, Friedrich
Nietzsche (I could go on and on), have spoken of the
higher-conscious mind in one form or fashion.
The higher-conscious is the place where individual ego/identity
dissolves and merges into unity with the source from which we all
come. The quantum physicist calls this source "energy." The
theologian calls this source "God, the Creator."
When we are able to transcend the individual separate identity and
tap into the source, seemingly incredible and often impossible
things begin to occur.
This is the state, according to Carl Jung, of tapping into the
"collective consciousness" and experiencing "synchronicities."
Things begin to happen that traditional empirical thinking would
label as "chance" or "luck," a "hunch," or "being in the right place
at the right time."
All of these explanations stem from a lack of understanding that we
are more than our body/ego. As Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said years
ago, "We are not physical beings having a spiritual experience. We
are spiritual beings having a physical experience."
